FUNdamental Focus

Learn why focus is one of the most important lifeskills

Do you struggle to keep your dog’s focus when you’re out and about? Do they prefer to run off and play with other dogs or follow lovely wild scents? Focus is a fundamental lifeskill for any dog and with this course you can begin to create an awesome partnership that equals great real-world focus skills and great teamwork. If you want a dog that can begin to focus and switch on and off when you need then this is the course for you.  Having a fantastic focus framework will help to create a confident dog and a dog that wants to be with you!

Taught as a 4-week course (2hours a week). There are no dogs for the first week for the theory section. A total of eight hours training! (six with your dog). Here at Raven River we love to work without our dogs every now and again; this ensures as handlers we understand and can implement the right techniques before starting to train our dogs – prepare to work your brains! Occasionally this is taught as a shorter taster workshop.

Dogs must be comfortable working around other dogs. Dogs must be over 12 months old. Course includes exercise book, notes and access to our FUNdamental Focus Facebook group. You will be expected to complete homework tasks and read up on some literature given in class.

PPPP Puppy Power

It’s always a favourite class amongst our trainers – the puppies! Brains ready for learning and owners looking to give their puppies the best training start. This course has been designed to help build optimistic and confident puppies through fantastic games and easy to understand theory (we need to know how our puppies learn before we can start to teach them).

Covering techniques to help you in new environments, how building value using play is super important and introducing ways to help your puppy make positive associations throughout its life. This course also covers myths and common puppy problems and how learning to be our puppies expert will support them the right way.

Go back to basics with reward-based methods that will begin to make walks that little bit more manageable. Learn why the leash can be one of the most important training items in your toolbox and why it’s more important than ever to have a dog that loves to walk on the lead!

Rocking Recallers

Fenton to fabulous

Does your dog like to chase other dogs, birds or perhaps just take themselves off for a merry jaunt? Recall is one of the most important things to teach your dog and this course is the perfect starting point for ensuring you get it right from the first walk. Taught with games and concepts that don’t mean you need to carry a bag full of toys or treats on every walk, our Rocking Recaller course is for anyone looking to begin building a solid and reliable recall.

Taught as a workshop with theory and practical training. Plus plenty of homework! Occasionally this is taught as a shorter taster workshop.

Includes exercise book, notes and access to our Rocking Recallers Facebook Group.

The Confident Canine

Is your dog’s glass half full or half empty? Do they go into new situations tail wagging or full of worry? If it’s the latter than we have a course for you! Designed to help pessimistic dogs become keen and confident learners you’ll study ways to support your dog as they take on new challenges.  In the first week you will begin to understand arousal, thresholds and the part that adrenaline can play. The course will cover areas such as reliability, positive & negative stress, emotion, marking distractions, and reactivity. You’ll also start to learn how you can become your dog’s bucket expert and why that’s vitally important in everyday life.

Taught as a 4-week course (2hours a week). There are no dogs for the first week for the theory section. A total of eight hours training! (six with your dog). Channelling The Chase (and resisting that impulse!)

As trainers and dog owners we know how difficult it is to be the most interesting thing to our dogs – in the real world that can sometimes be pretty much impossible! This course is a great way to start building real-world self-control (also known as impulse control) in the face of some very exciting things! Food, chase, play and even reacting to novelty can be just a few of those things. The theory week will cover positive motivators, negative motivators and how breed can impact things such as chase drive and hunting. There are no magic wands when it comes to training but we hope by the end of this course you’ve learnt how to train your dog to be responsive and eager to work through high arousal situations with you as their expert!

The Terrible Teenager

Did you know “Research has estimated that 130,000 dogs come into UK rehoming charities each year. It's also devastating that behaviour problems are the most common reason for dogs under 2 years of age to be put to sleep by vets”. Rachel Casey, Dogs Trust School of Dogs.

Young and full of fun - our teenage dogs can present a number of challenges when they hit the ages of 10months-18 months. Sometimes behaviours that your dog once knew well are proving to be problematic or breed specific instincts are now starting to play a larger part in how your dog lives their day to day life. Perhaps you’ve taken on a dog during this lifestage and are unsure how to get the best training going forward. This course is designed to build confidence, re-address focus but also touches on games you can play that will help build a great working relationship. Trainers will also cover secondary fear periods and how this may impact training and personality.

Taught as a 4-week course (2hours a week). There are no dogs for the first week for the theory section. A total of eight hours training! (six with your dog). Breed/size specific activity workshops

Our breed/size specific workshops are perfect for helping to keep those doggy brains ticking over. As humans we don’t all learn the same way and we can’t expect our dogs to do the same. Some breeds are pre-disposed to certain behaviour traits and as owners we have to know how we can work with them to ensure they lead a happy and enriching life. These workshops are also great tasters with games such as agility, hoopers, scentwork, confidence building and more. Breed specific days may also include retrieving, hunting and more. Some of the games can be easily replicated at home or out on the move. Get on the same page with your dog by learning what they were bred to do and how this will help you plan your training.

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks

Sometimes it’s no fun getting older! It’s the same for our dogs, getting older doesn’t have to mean giving up activities or training, it just means finding a more suitable way of doing things. These workshops are great for older dogs, or dogs that are unable to do high intensity training and exercise. Learn ways to help your older dog still feel like a spring chicken – with games, trick training, low impact activities and relationship building. This workshop also covers how we as owners can make our older dogs lives as enriching as possible – and what sort of changes will help make their everyday life that little bit easier.

Taught as a half day workshop. 10am-2pm.

Dogs must be comfortable working around other dogs. Dogs must be over 6 years old.
